Pop-up coaching event links expats with professional coaches

Written by Klarrisa Frank

Empower’s team of international coaches eagerly awaited the arrival of almost 20 expats at Circl in Amsterdam Zuid last Thursday. Participants had signed-up for a timeslot to receive a 45-minute coaching session.

After the expat participants filed into the room, they were matched with one of our seven volunteer coaches there that evening. Why would our coaches volunteer their time for these pop-up sessions?

One of these coaches is Reece Backhouse of The Culturetect. He explained why saying, “It’s a wonderful opportunity to provide clients with a vision into what the experience of coaching will be like. I find that people who purchase their ticket to the pop-up are a step towards taking the decision to seek coaching but might still have some reservations.”

At the pop-up coaching session, Reece helped his client identify what was blocking him from achieving his dreams. Because the client came with real intentions of moving forward, Reece could better help him face and manage his blockages, experience new insights of discovery, and re-energize his path towards achieving goals. This client received quite a bit for only a 45-minute session!

This client wasn’t the only one to leave with such powerful insights, all of our coaches were able to provide similar experiences. How? Because that’s what coaching does – it helps you establish realistic goals, discover solutions to challenges you may be up against, develop action plans and build your motivation and confidence.

What is a pop-up coaching event?

We hold about six pop-up coaching sessions throughout the year. The format is always the same – you get 45-minutes of 1:1 coaching with one of our expert coaches. It works best if you bring a topic with you to discuss, something that you need help working through in your life and career.

Whilst coaching is more of a process than a one-time action, we started our pop-up coaching sessions to give you a taste of the power of coaching and how effective it can be. If you don’t know what coaching is or you’re unsure of how it can help you, attending a pop-up coaching event is an easy way to test the waters. You never know, you could immediately connect with your coach and ask for more sessions with them!

How can you attend future pop-up coaching sessions?

You can always find out about our pop-up coaching sessions by following us on FacebookInstagramLinkedin, or signing up for our monthly e-mail newsletters.

Before the end of 2019, we are doing two more pop-up coaching sessions at local events and conferences in Amsterdam. These will be slightly shorter at 30-minutes per session but will be just as impactful as our normal pop-ups. Here are the upcoming events:

  • 29 October 2019: We’ll be at the Women in Tech (WiT) Regatta doing four different speed coaching sessions. If you have a ticket to the WiT Regatta (available on their website), you can sign-up for a timeslot for a free coaching session here
  • 10 November 2019: We have a booth at the Expat Family Market in Westerpark. This event is free, but reserve your tickets online for the market here. Then, make sure to sign-up for your free coaching session with us here. We have four timeslots available!
